Tottenham Hotspur finished 3rd in the Barclays Premier League last season and once again booked their place in the UEFA Champions League.

The north Londoners secured a new deal for Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino and now they must quickly reinforce the squad by signing top players.

As far as the defense is concerned, Belgian international Toby Alderweireld is linked with a move away from Spurs and he should be replaced by a top quality center half.

In such a scenario, reports suggest that Tottenham want to sign England international and Newcastle United camptain Jamaal Lascelles.

According to London Evening Standard, Spurs are ready to combat with London rivals Chelsea to sign the 24-year-old magpies star, who was top class in the last campaign under the management of Spanish boss Rafael Benitez.

The British outlet have mentioned that even Everton are interested in hiring the services of Lascelles, whose current contract with NUFC will expire in 2023 and he is valued at 45 million pounds (€51million).

The former Nottingham Forest defender featured in 33 Premier League games and scored 3 goals as Newcastle finished 10th in the table after returning to the top flight from the Championship.

In your opinion, is Jamaal Lascelles good enough to replace a solid defender like Alderweireld?

  1. If Alderweireld leaves (and that’s beginning to appear unlikely) Spurs already have Sanchez in place and will be needing a solid journeyman as a back up
