The Premier League transfer window closed last night and Chelsea were very active in the last few days. The west London club signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Bilbao for a huge sum of £71m (BBC).
Also, the Stamford Bridge club sold star goalie Courtois to Real Madrid and lured midfielder Mateo Kovacic from the European Champions (BBC).
The Croatian international has joined the Blues on a season long loan and it will be interesting to see how new boss Maurizio Sarri will use the versatile midfielder in his team.
The Italian boss adequately strengthened his midfield before the start of the new PL campaign. Last month, Chelsea signed Jorginho from Napoli. The Blues have also got midfielders like Kante, Bakayoko, Barkley, Loftus-Cheek and Fabregas in the team.
Chelsea mainly played a 3-4-3 system under Conte but Sarri likes to play a 4-3-3 formation, he utilized the formation in Italy and we can expect him to deploy the same in England. He did use the 4-3-3 formation in the Community Shield fixture vs Manchester City last weekend.
In the three man midfield, expensive signing Jorginho should start as the main defensive midfielder. In the central midfield role, French international N’Golo Kante is irreplaceable and he must always start if fit.
In the advanced midfield role, Kovacic should get the nod to start ahead of veteran Spaniard Fabregas. The 24-year-old rarely started for Los Blancos and will be hoping to get regular starts under Sarri.
This is how Chelsea should line up with Mateo Kovacic.
