Everton play hosts to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon. Both teams will see players return after their international commitments, and the next set of fixtures will determine their respective progress in the new season.
Ronald Koeman’s side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in their previous game, and they never look like getting a goal with no shots on target. Meanwhile, Spurs looked to have grabbed their first home league win at the Wembley but their curse continued after Chris Wood grabbed a late equaliser for Burnley in a 1-1 draw.
Both teams have accumulated just four points from their opening three outings, but Spurs are positioned ninth in comparison to Everton’s 12th due to a better goal difference.
Players to watch for:
Wayne Rooney – Everton:
The ex-England international has been the only player who has looked like scoring for the Toffees. Rooney made a surprise decision to end his Three Lions career earlier last month, and he could now express himself without the pressure of performing for national team selection. The 31-year-old has two goals in three outings this term, and he could potentially add to his tally versus Spurs against whom he has netted 11 times in 20 appearances.
Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur:
The 24-year-old has always struggled in the month of August, and it proved difficult once again as he failed to find the net. Despite this, the striker will be up for it against the Toffees after having bagged two goals for England in the recent World Cup qualifiers. Kane has three goals in his previous six outings with the Merseyside outfit.
Everton have looked arranged at the back this season with their three-man formation and they could possibly nick a point at home versus their north London counterparts.
