Alexis Sanchez’s future was the subject of constant speculation during the summer, but Arsenal managed to keep hold of his services after they failed to find a suitable replacement. The Chile international has since shown no signs of extending his Gunners deal, and this could see him leave on a Bosman at the end of 2017/18 season. Arsene Wenger, though, has the option of cashing in on his signature in January, and Calcio Insider looks into a couple of players, who could replace the 28-year-old forward.
Anthony Martial – Manchester United: The 21-year-old has been a bit of hit and miss during his time at Old Trafford, although he has transformed into a better player under Jose Mourinho. Martial is comfortable playing in the left-wing role, although he is said to prefer a role up front, where he shone in his maiden United campaign. Martial has amassed five goals and five assists for United this term, but he has still played second fiddle to Marcus Rashford out wide. ESPN has recently suggested that the Gunners could raid for Martial as Sanchez’s replacement, but there is a typical roadblock in Mourinho, who will be reluctant to sell his prized asset to a top-four rival.
Julian Draxler – Paris Saint-Germain: The German international has been annually linked with the Gunners since his early days at Schalke 04. Despite the interest, the Gunners have not quite convinced the attacker, who is now at Paris Saint-Germain following a stint at Wolfsburg. Now 24, the attacker has come into own for club and country, with Germany coach Joachim Loew handing him the captaincy during their Confederations Cup triumph in Russia. Draxler is currently behind the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the attack front at Les Parisiens, and a move to the Emirates looks a realistic possibility in January with Wenger a huge admirer of his talents.
