Liverpool entertain Manchester United in a mouthwatering Premier League clash from Anfield on Saturday. The Reds have endured a mixed start to the top-flight season with just victories in their opening seven outings. As a result, they lie seventh in the standings, seven points adrift of table-toppers Manchester City. In contrast, the Red Devils have barely put a foot wrong in the early stages of the campaign with 19 points secured out of 21. They are only behind cross-town rivals City on goal difference.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have dominated the battle between the so-called ‘top-six’ in the Premier League, but their record against United is not the best with no victories in their previous three league meetings at Anfield.
Players to watch for:
Philippe Coutinho – Liverpool: The Reds probably have one of the fiercest attacks in the top-flight, but they have failed to make the best of their chances at goal. Coutinho has been playing in a slightly deeper midfield role this season, and he has scored in back to back league games against Leicester City and Newcastle United. Coutinho has built up the reputation of scoring long-range goals, and David de Gea will have to keep guard when the attacker is on the ball.
Romelu Lukaku – Manchester United: Unlike Liverpool, Manchester United have had no issues in the frontline with Lukaku scoring goals in nearly every game. Lukaku has already amassed seven goals in the top-flight this term, and his only failure came in the 2-0 win over Leicester City back in August. The former Evertonian is a presence in the penalty box, and he could prove a menace for a Reds backline, which has conceded 12 goals in just seven outings.
Prediction:
Manchester United have proved a tough nut to break in recent times, but there could be goals in this game. Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini is sidelined for Saturday’s early kick-off and his absence could hamper the Red Devils.
