Three things we learned: Arsenal 3-3 Liverpool

Arsenal and Liverpool played out yet another exciting Premier League encounter as they settled for a share of the spoils in a 3-3 draw. The Reds dominated the proceedings for most of the first period but they eventually had to settle for a point courtesy of their amateurish finishing in front of goal.

Three Things We Learned:

Liverpool’s defensive woes continue on the road: Despite possessing the joint-best defensive record at home (three goals in nine matches) this season, the Reds have not quite exhibited their resolve on their travels. The Reds were cruising to a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Gunners, but their lack of defensive awareness alongside poor goalkeeping from Simon Mignolet cost them two points in the end. Klopp’s side have conceded 20 goals in just 10 away trips this term, and it is surely a worrying sign for the club irrespective of their attacking prowess.

Klopp may have to reconsider Simon Mignolet’s position: The Belgium international has had his fair share of critics over the years, and Saturday’s game has only invited more criticism after he misjudged Granit Xhaka’s long-range goal. Xhaka’s shot was pretty much straight towards the Reds shot-stopper, but the 29-year-old decided to go with his left hand to parry the ball away, which he simply failed to do. Liverpool’s deputy Loris Karius has also received stick in the past for his poor goalkeeping decisions, and Klopp may have to rethink his strategy.

Arsenal’s cautious approach versus Liverpool: Arsenal entered the game on the back of three successive defeats versus Liverpool, but none had expected the Gunners to be bogged down in their home patch. The north Londoners pretty much played like the away side during the first period, which saw them exit the field amid a chorus of boos. Eventually they managed to show up in a five-minute interval which changed the complexion of the game, but there was still a fear of a repeat of the 4-0 defeat at Anfield as relayed by Jack Wilshere in his post-match interview.
