Inter Milan plot loan approach for Premier League outcast

Inter Milan are reportedly eyeing a loan move for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has fallen out-of-favour at Manchester United in recent months. The Armenia international has not made a single start for the Red Devils since the 1-0 Premier League defeat at Chelsea, and there has since been the talk of a rift between him and manager Jose Mourinho.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are interested in a winter move for the 28-year-old attacker, but they do not believe a permanent agreement is feasible as they may not be able to meet the Financial Fair Play requirements. As a result, the Serie A outfit are weighing up a temporary deal for the versatile ace, who has recently made back-to-back substitute appearances for the Red Devils.

Inter Milan started the season in prime fashion as they remained unbeaten for the first 16 matches. However, their form has nosedived prior to Christmas with successive defeats against Udinese and Sassuolo, which have widened their gap to the top of the table.

Luciano Spalletti’s side are currently positioned third in the Serie A table, and they find themselves five points adrift of Napoli, who have lost a solitary game against Juventus this term. The likes of Ivan Perisic and Mauro Icardi have shared most of the goalscoring burden for Inter this campaign, and they could do with an additional attacker, who has a keen eye for goal.

Mkhitaryan has not quite sparked to life during his 18-month stay with United, and his future remains uncertain ahead of the New Year with Borussia Dortmund also deemed to be vying to reacquire his services.

The Armenian began United’s season in sublime touch as he notched five assists in just three top-flight games, but his form has since deserted him with just a solitary goal in the next 10 matches he has played.
