Premier League final day Preview

The Premier League heads into its 38th and the final game of the season with Chelsea due to be crowned the new champions of England’s premier division.

Antonio Conte’s side have cruised towards their fifth Premier League title this term whilst Tottenham Hotspur will take the positives after having finished runners-up in the standings.

Normally, the final day of the season brings a couple of twists in the bottom half of the table, but this season is an exception with two of the Champions League qualification spots still up for grabs.

Manchester City hold a significant three-point advantage over fifth-placed Arsenal, and they are favourites to secure the third place owing to their vast goal difference compared to the Gunners.

This leaves Liverpool as the sole club under threat of losing a top-four spot as any slip-up versus Middlesbrough could let Arsene Wenger’s side a route into the Champions League, if they win against Everton.

Elsewhere, Chelsea do also have some honours to fight for, as a victory over relegated Sunderland could break the Premier League record for the most wins in a single season.

The west London club achieved a 29-match win feat during the 2004-05 campaign, which they have matched this term, and they can eclipse it with a victory over bottom side Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, outgoing champions Leicester City could earn themselves a top-half finish to the season, should they beat Bournemouth at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Foxes were lingering just above the relegation zone when Claudio Ranieri was sacked, but they have managed to turn it round under Craig Shakespeare.

An upper half finish would be a sign of success for the East Midlands club, who just could not match their performances as a team in order to defend their title.
