Jose Mourinho wants reunion with Chelsea enforcer

Manchester United will reportedly plot a raid on former club Chelsea as he looks to secure the services of midfielder Nemanja Matic. The Serbia international is due to be awarded his second Premier League medal in three years on Sunday afternoon.

Matic, 28, has been a key figure in the Blues setup this term after having made 30 league starts in Antonio Conte’s maiden season in English management.

According to The Sun, the Special One is plotting a move for his former player as he looks to shore up his midfield ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

The 54-year-old is said to want at least two central midfielders in his ranks this term with Michael Carrick approaching the final stages of his professional career.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier had been lined up as a potential recruit for the summer, but a deal looks highly unlikely with Spurs reluctant to place a price on their asset.

Conte has utilised the services of Matic on a regular basis during the ongoing campaign, but his desire to bring in a new midfielder could encourage the player’s exit from west London.

Matic arrived for a second spell at Stamford Bridge for £21m in January 2014, and Mourinho would be willing to spend as much as £35m in order to lure the Serbian to Old Trafford.

The Premier League are currently maintaining a keen interest in Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko whilst Cesc Fabregas could have a crucial role to play next season with the Blues embarking on a Champions League challenge.

Manchester United have had a mixed spell in the domestic competitions this season, and the Europa League remains crucial to their quest of luring the best talents from across the world.

The Mancunian giants take on a young Ajax side in the Europa League final in Stockholm on Wednesday night, and a win would assure them of a place in next season’s Champions League.
