Picks from the Premier League: Game Week 2

Game Week 2 of the Premier League produced its thrills and spills with a couple of teams suffering surprise defeats. At the top, Manchester United extended their dominance with six points from two outings while holding a superior goal difference over minnows Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion. Meanwhile, the likes of Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Brighton and Hove Albion have yet to open their points tally with two losses in as many games.

Here are two matches which impressed us all at Calcio Insider;

Stoke City 1-0 Arsenal: Looking by the history, this would be considered as a game which Stoke dominated with their physical attributes. However, it was some shrewd passing towards the Gunners’ defence which aided debutant Jese Rodriguez to get on the scoresheet. The Gunners held more than 77 percent of the possession – the highest in a league outing since 2003, but they were unable to break the past the Potters backline. A couple of penalty appeals were declined while the offside goal on Alexandre Lacazette could have gone either way with a small part of his boot appearing ahead of the defender. Ultimately, luck did not favour the Gunners, and they succumbed to a disappointing defeat.

Swansea City 0-4 Manchester United: Rooney stole the show on Monday night with his 200th Premier League goal playing for Everton. However, his former club are also on a roll themselves with convincing 4-0 victories over both West Ham United and Swansea City. The clash at the Liberty Stadium had a lack of finishing quality in the first period with Eric Bailly netting the opener in the dying seconds of the half. United’s dominance therein had to wait until the 81st minute where a flurry of three goals in just four minutes sealed the game. Romelu Lukaku bagged his third goal in just two games whilst Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial also found on the net as they did with the Hammers.
