Paul Pogba unlikely to seek winter exit from Manchester United

France international Paul Pogba is prepared to stay put with Manchester United beyond the winter transfer window after the club took the decision to sack Jose Mourinho from the head coach role.

The 25-year-old had experienced a difficult relationship with Mourinho since the start of 2018 and they showed no signs of patching up recently with the midfielder being unused in back-to-back league games.

Amidst this, the Frenchman has been regularly linked with a January move away from Old Trafford but according to The Sun, this may not be the case any longer with the club’s decision to sack their manager.

Pogba has been far from impressive during the ongoing campaign and he has been guilty of losing possession of the ball on numerous occasions whenever he has featured on the playing field.

Based on this, it appears justified that the midfielder has been benched regularly but Mourinho’s reluctance to even feature the midfielder in recent league games showed a clear rift between them.

With Mourinho no longer at the helm, Pogba should once more retain a starting role with the Red Devils and it will be interesting to see whether he can also reclaim the vice-captaincy which was stripped of him.

Meanwhile, the likes of Fred and Andreas Pereira are among the other players, who could get into contention for regular gametime under the caretaker manager expected to be announced this week.

United are currently going through their worst-ever league campaign with just 26 points after the opening 17 matches and this sees them in a battle for the top-four with 11 points separating them from fourth-placed Chelsea.

Whoever succeeds Mourinho for the interim role has a huge task ahead to transform the club’s fortunes and it remains to be seen whether the players can step up to the challenge with a long winning run.
