Arsenal boss prepared to part ways with leading midfielder

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is reportedly open to the condition of offloading Mesut Ozil when the transfer window reopens in the New Year. The former Germany international has been a valuable contributor in the club’s FA Cup success over the past five years but his future has come under doubt this term amid the limited gametime offered under the tutelage of Emery.

According to The Independent, the Spanish tactician does not regard Ozil as an indispensable player in the Gunners squad and he would have no issues, should the north London giants decide to sanction his sale when the transfer window reopens in less than 10 days’ time.

Ozil had been fancied to play an influential figure under Emery’s guidance this season after committing his future to the Gunners with a new long-term contract earlier in the year. However, things have not paved the same way with the manager wanting the German to show more intensity in terms of the workrate which has simply not been visible during the first half of the season.

As such, it no doubt appears that Ozil has a fight on his hands to redeem the trust of the manager but before this, the hierarchy may have a decision to make regarding his future with Inter Milan among the contenders looking to tempt him away from the Emirates Stadium next month.

Nonetheless, any permanent move for the German seems far from happening with his staggering £300,000-a-week wages and The Independent suggests that a temporary move could suit both parties for the moment with the player getting the much-needed gametime while the club can garner some additional transfer funds.

Arsenal are currently fifth on the Premier League table with just three points separating them from Chelsea, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot. The Gunners go into the weekend’s league game against Burnley on the back of successive defeats across all competitions for the first time since August.
