Paris Saint-Germain plotting raid for Manchester United’s leading performer

French champions Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly keen on luring goalkeeper David de Gea from Manchester United when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

The Spain international has spent the past eight-and-a-half seasons with the Mancunian giants, but his future has recently become a regular topic of discussion with his contract expiring at the end of next season.

According to The Sun, Les Parisiens could find themselves in an advantageous position to pursue De Gea from Old Trafford, given they are prepared to match his demands for a £350,000-a-week contract.

Furthermore, it is added that they could stump up a fee in the region of £60m for the former Atletico Madrid graduate despite his United contract scheduled to expire in 15 months’ time.

Opinion:

De Gea has been hugely instrumental to United’s performances in the Premier League over the past eight years, although they have failed to sufficiently compete for the title since the 2012/13 season.

In such a case, any player would seek to join a club capable of competing for regular silverware but De Gea has remained committed to the club’s cause without voicing any major disappointment in public.

Still, he would want to be rightfully paid for the standout displays with the club over the past four years in particular, and United’s reluctance to match his demands may trigger a move elsewhere.

With Paris Saint-Germain, De Gea would straightaway get his hands on the number one role ahead of Gianluigi Buffon and Alphonse Areola, and he could make the difference for the club in Europe where they have failed to excel.

Les Parisiens have experienced a couple of shock eliminations at the round of 16 stage of the Champions League in the past three seasons including the current one, and the Spaniard could help them gain the edge with his excellent reflexes between the sticks.
