Crystal Palace winger linked with Old Trafford return under Ole

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha has been fancied to make a probable return to Manchester United in the summer with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being confirmed as the permanent head coach of the club.

The Norwegian was recently handed with the permanent managerial role with the Red Devils after going through an impressive three-month period, where the club managed to win 10 of their 13 league matches.

With the decision made, the Mancunian giants are now said to be planning their targets, and The Sun claims that former Red Devil Zaha could be an option for the club to pursue when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign.

Zaha has undoubtedly transformed his game since returning to Palace from United on a permanent basis four years ago, but prior to that, he had a loan spell under Ole at Cardiff City, where the duo are said to have built a fond relationship.

Palace are currently said to value Zaha in the region of £70m, but United are understood to hold the advantage of re-signing him at a lesser price, given they had agreed on a 25 percent sell-on fee for the winger when he was sold in February 2015.

Opinion:

United have had concerns on the right side of the attack for the past few seasons with none of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard finding regular success in the role.

Based on this, Zaha may not offer them an improvement, given he has constantly been deployed on the left side of Palace’s attack with limited exposure on the opposite flank under current boss Roy Hodgson.

Nonetheless, there remains the room for improvement with Zaha entering the prime of his career, and the vast Premier League experience makes him a viable choice for the role compared to other targets including Jadon Sancho.

Young Englishman Sancho has been a huge hit with the permanent move to Dortmund, but United’s chances of signing him during the summer remain slim with the club’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke recently highlighting that they have no plans of sanctioning his sale.
