Manchester United are regarded as one of the front-runners to pursue Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign.
The France international was heavily linked with an exit from the Europa League holders last summer before he made the decision to sign a new long-term deal with the Capital club.
However, the decision has not gone as planned with Atleti struggling to compete for silverware this term, and Sport claims that the forward is now regretting the contract renewal which saw him snub advances from Barcelona.
Despite this, the 28-year-old is said to hold a strong demand in the transfer market with Premier League giants Manchester United highlighted as the top targets to pursue him during the forthcoming transfer window.
It is added that the rainy weather in Manchester remains a concern, though Griezmann would prefer working with compatriots Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba, with the latter being a close friend of his.
Opinion:
At 28, Griezmann has entered the prime of his career and he probably feels the need to switch clubs with Atleti struggling to compete consistently for silverware in Spain and Europe.
In this case, long-term suitors United remain a suitable option for the Frenchman, given he could become the leader of the attack and transform their fortunes of late.
Still, it remains to be seen whether United will make a formal approach for the attacker, considering he has previously snubbed their advances to stay put with the Madrid outfit.
Back in the summer of 2017, Griezmann told Le Quotidien that he has a 6/10 chance of joining United, but he rejected their approach after Atleti’s transfer ban was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
