Manchester United could face potential competition to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic ahead of this summer’s transfer window. The Croatia international is due to leave the Nerazzurri this summer just two years after his arrival from German club Wolfsburg.

According to Metro (h/t) La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri have stalled on United’s £45.3m approach for the attacker amid interest from other top clubs in Europe.

Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are all said to have monitored Perisic over the course of the campaign, and the Italian club are waiting on potential bigger offers before making a final decision on their winger.

Inter Milan, who are currently under a new Chinese consortium, are in a compulsion to offload their key players this summer in order to meet their Financial Fair Play targets for the year 2016-17.

As a result, the club have to offload their main players before the end of the month or else face a huge penalty in their budget during the summer transfer window.

Apart from Perisic, the likes of Andrea Ranocchia, Yuto Nagatomo, Marcelo Brozovic, Ever Banega, Jonathan Biabiany and Rodrigo Palacio have been placed on the transfer market as the Nerazzurri look to balance their books for the season ahead.

Perisic enjoyed an impressive campaign in the Serie A last term with 11 goals and eight assists in 36 outings, but this was nowhere enough to propel the club into the Champions League places.

UEFA announced that Italy would receive four spots in the premier competition starting from the 2018/19 season, and this will provide the Nerazzurri with the impetus to push for the Serie A crown next season.

Inter Milan last won the Scudetto during the 2009-10 campaign and they have since lingered in the top half of the table without offering a significant challenge for the ‘little shield’.
