Manchester United have made significant progress towards signing want-away Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic in the summer. The Croatian attacker is eager to pursue a fresh challenge away from the Nerazzurri after they missed out on European football altogether last season.
According to The Manchester Evening News h/t Corriere dello Sport, the Red Devils have agreed upon a £100,000 a week salary package with Perisic – double of what he is currently earning at San Siro.
In spite of this, the Red Devils are yet to finalise a transfer package with the fallen Italian giants, who are holding out on a £44m sum for the 28-year-old. Jose Mourinho’s side are, for now, not keen to pay more than £35m, and there could be further negotiations through the month in order to settle on a fee which satisfies both clubs.
Perisic was undoubtedly the standout performer for Inter last term as he bagged 11 goals and 11 assists across all competitions. Despite his efforts, the club ended a lowly seventh place in the Serie A with the club’s hierarchy chopping and changing their managers.
Former Roma boss Luciano Spalletti took over reigns at Inter earlier last week, and he suggested that Perisic could leave as he appears more motivated to play for another club. Perisic built up his reputation during his time at former club Wolfsburg, and this earned him a move to Inter Milan in the summer of 2015, where he has established himself as the go-to man in the attack front.
Anthony Martial did not do much to prove his credentials on the left wing last season, and Perisic would provide a major boost given his vast experience in that position. On top of that, the attacker is also comfortable playing in the number 10 role, and he could provide the zest United have been lacking over the past few years.
