Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho needs to sign fullbacks to strengthen the team’s defense in the summer transfer window.

As far as the left back role is concerned, the Red Devils have mainly utilized Ashley Young, a natural winger, in that position this season. The veteran Englishman has done well in the LB role but United need to sign a specialist fullback as soon as possible.

Mourinho has tried the likes of Rojo, Blind and Shaw in the left back position as well but none of them have been consistent enough. Moreover, the mentioned trio have faced injury concerns on regular basis.

As far as the latest transfer news is concerned, once again, the Old Trafford club are linked with Napoli star Faouzi Ghoulam.

Back in December 2017, Tutto Sport reported that Mourinho is prepared to activate the €60million (£52million) release clause in Ghoulam’s contract to lure him in the winter transfer window. However, the move did not happen and the Algerian international stayed with the Italian side.

As per latest reports in the Italian media (Corriere dello Sport press pic at the end of the article) Manchester United are still interested in signing the defender and with the help of Jorge Mendes – agent of Jose Mourinho and Faouzi Ghoulam –  the Red Devils can sign the player for €38million (£33million) before 30th June.

After 30th June, Ghoulam’s price tag will rise to €48million. The 27-year-old left back has been a regular starter for Napoli over the years but this season, he has mainly been on the treatment table.

The African defender has recently recovered from his knee injury and was on the bench last weekend against Torino (Serie A). In 17 appearances, he has so far, scored 2 goals and provided 5 assists for the Serie A giants.
