Liverpool credited with an interest in highly-rated English winger

Liverpool are understood to hold an interest in signing Callum Hudson-Odoi from Premier League rivals Chelsea at the end of the ongoing campaign.

The Reds were associated with the Blues attacker during the early stages of the season, but they restricted from going into a bidding battle with Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window.

Nonetheless, they did not miss out on the youngster’s signature, given the Blues declined as many as four offers from Bayern despite the youngster handed in a transfer request, as per Sky Sports News.

According to SportBild, the winger is once more expected to attract interest from the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund having joined Bayern in the race to acquire the services of the England youth international.

However, the German duo are not alone in the player’s pursuit with Jurgen Klopp’s side highlighted to be tracking the proceedings of the England under-17 World Cup winner.

Liverpool are currently in a comfortable position with regards to their starting XI with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino being the undisputed choices in the frontline.

Still, the club have sometimes lacked the edge when one of the trio have sustained injuries and that is one concern which may tempt Klopp to reinvest in the transfer market for a youthful attacking option.

At the tender age of 18, Hudson-Odoi has already been the subject of a maximum £35m bid from Bayern, but the Blues may not be able to command a similar transfer sum when the season concludes.

The teenager has currently shown no signs of extending his Blues contract which expires in 15 months’ time and this may offer clubs with the opportunity to discuss a reduced sum for his signature.

Despite this, Liverpool can’t expect an easy route towards the uprising star, given their league rivalry with Chelsea, while the player may feel that he has more chances to succeed at Dortmund or Bayern with more gametime.

Dortmund have already led the example with the progress of Jadon Sancho over the past 21 months. In Bayern’s case, Hudson-Odoi has a good chance to compete for a wider role alongside young duo Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, who are yet to become undisputed choices.

Elsewhere, Hudson-Odoi has witnessed the shock of his life with the maiden call-up to the England senior squad despite failing to make his Premier League debut to date. He could make his bow against Czech Republic and Montenegro in the Euro 2020 qualifiers this month.
