Liverpool were defeated by Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday night much to the despair of the Anfield faithful.
To cheer the supporters and to strengthen the team, the Merseysiders have acted swiftly to announce (LFC) their first summer signing by capturing Brazilian star Fabinho from French side AS Monaco. The Reds confirmed that they have agreed a fee with the Ligue 1 side, completed the medical and agreed a long term contract with the player, who will officially seal his move on July 1.
According to reports (The Mirror), Liverpool have completed the signing of the Samba star for a fee worth 45 million pounds (€51.5million).
The 24-year-old South American player is a versatile talent. Normally, he plays in the defensive midfield role but he has also proved to be productive in the right back position. Praising his quality and versatility, Klopp stated (LFC):
“We have signed a fantastic player, but someone who is an equally fantastic person I think,”
“He has ability and mentality to play at the highest level in a number of positions. He can play ‘6’, ‘8’ and ‘2’. This is cool.”
The former Real Madrid player was solid in the holding midfield role for Monaco last season and also scored some crucial goals. In 33 league appearances, Fabinho directly contributed in 11 goals (7 goals and 4 assists).
We can expect him to replace Emre Can at Anfield. The German midfielder’s contract with Liverpool will expire next month.
