How to Prevent Jet Lag or Reduce its Effects

Whether you travel for business or pleasure you’ve probably experienced some form of jet lag before.  It’s never pleasant and can really be a problem during your trip.  You may not be as sharp at your meeting or you may spend a whole day in your hotel bed with a headache instead of touring the city.

Whatever your case may be taking some simple steps to prevent or reduce jet leg can be of big help to you both professionally and personally.

Keep Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water and keeping hydrated on the airplane is an important thing you can do to prevent or reduce jet lag.  Dehydration makes us sore and tired and when you combine that with crossing several time zones things can get sticky.  You should also avoid drinking alcohol on the and sodas on the plane because they dehydrate you as well.

Get Some Rest

While you are on the plane try to get some sleep, as it will come in handy.  However, you will also want to pay attention to the time zone you are going to and not get too far out of whack.  Sometimes sleeping on the plane can hurt you in this case, so be mindful.

Adjust ASAP

Trying to get yourself on a proper time schedule for the place and time zone you are traveling to will help.  Do this as soon as you can. Getting your body clock in tune with its environment is key and will help you adjust faster.

Hit the Gym

I find that if you go to the gym as soon as you can especially after a very long flight it helps a lot.  Your blood gets flowing and your body and brain get extra oxygen. You’ll feel better all around. Even a simple 20 or 30-minute cardio routine can do the trick.
