Lukaku out – How Man United could line up with €159million duo

Manchester United need to reinforce their squad before the start of the Premier League campaign next month and they are linked with two top Bundesliga stars.

As per a report covered by The Independent, the Red Devils are looking to sign Thiago Alcantara and Robert Lewandowski.

As per reports, the duo have a combined worth of €159million. The Polish striker is worth €89million (The Express) and the Spanish midfielder is worth €70million (Sport).

The question is, how Man United could line up with the world class stars if the duo end up moving to Old Trafford?

Over the years, Mourinho has mainly played a lone center forward formation and since moving to Man United, he has mainly utilized two formations i.e. 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3. He mostly used the 4-3-3 formation in the second half of the last campaign.

If Lewandowski joins then he should be the lone striker up front ahead of Lukaku. The Belgian international could only net 16 goals in the league and his finishing was below par. The former Borussia Dortmund man is arguably the best finisher in the world and therefore, he must start.

As far as United’s midfield is concerned, Matic is their best defensive midfielder and Mourinho has also worked with him at Chelsea. Pogba is the club’s record signing, who has recently won the World Cup and he should start as well.

This means that if Alcantara arrives, he will battle for the starting position with new signing Fred. The former Barca man is one of the most creative midfielders in the world and should get the nod to start ahead of the Brazilian.
