Liverpool are in dire need of a top out and out striker because the current strike-force is just not good enough.

Daniel Sturridge was fantastic in the 2013-2014 campaign but since then, the England international has mostly been on the treatment table. Danny Ings missed most part of the last campaign with an injury and the story has been the same this season as well.

Divock Origi was in decent form for some time but even the Belgian international has started most games on the bench because Klopp prefers Roberto Firmino up front. Therefore, the Reds are looking at options to strengthen their striking department and an Austrian international is being eyed.

Sources close to the player have told Calcio Insider that Liverpool were interested in signing 27-year-old striker Guido Burgstaller in the winter transfer window but the player eventually left 2. Bundesliga side Nuremberg to join Schalke in the top tier.

The Premier Leaugue side are still interested in signing Guido who was in top form before moving to Schalke and he has settled well with the new club in no time.

The ex Rapid Vienna center forward was the top scorer of the 2.Bundesliga in the first half of the season. He netted 14 goals in 15 league starts for Nuremberg.

In 8 league starts for the Bundesliga side, Burgstaller has scored 4 goals and set up 2 goals. In addition, he has been impressive in the Europa League campaign as well. In 3 EL starts, he has netted two goals, one in the Round of 32 contest against PAOK and the other in the Round of 16 contest against Borussia Monchengladbach. Schalke will face Dutch giants Ajax in the quarter finals of the competition.

Liverpool need a center forward who would score at least 20 goals in the league. Guido’s stats for the current season are good but his overall figures are not really impressive. Hence, the Merseysiders must pass and sign someone with a proven track record.

Burgstaller is not the only Schalke player that is wanted by the Anfield side. Last week, Sport Bild reported that the Reds have made a contract offer to 23-year-old Sead Kolasinac. The Bosnian left back will be out of contract in the summer.
