Prior to their Round of 16 contest against Colombia, England had never won a WC penalty shootout but last night, the Three Lions booked their place in the quarter finals of the tournament after beating the South Americans on penalties.
Everton shot stopper, Jordan Pickford, was the best player on the field. He made perhaps the save of the tournament save in normal time and then made the vital save in the shootout to earn England a place in the last eight.
Skipper Harry Kane gave England the lead by scoring from the spot in the second half. However, Mina headed home in injury time to equalize for Colombia.
In the shootout, Liverpool captain Henderson’s penalty was saved by Arsenal goalie Ospina but after that, Uribe and Bacca failed to convert their penalties and that gave Dier the chance to seal the win for England.
The Tottenham midfielder stepped up and converted his spot kick much to the delight of the English supporters.
