Chelsea plan winter deals for Alex Sandro, Alexis Sanchez to keep hold of Conte

Premier League holders Chelsea will reportedly go on a winter spending spree in order to keep Antonio Conte satisfied at Stamford Bridge. The Italian head coach was frustrated by the Blues’ lack of transfer activity during the early stage of the summer transfer window, although they made up with a flurry of signings in the end.

The likes of Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko have cemented their places since their summer arrival, but the Blues still seem short of challenging for the Premier League title after they were truly outclassed by leaders Manchester City last weekend. The Blues struggled to get a stranglehold into the game, and they eventually lost 1-0 to the Citizens, with just two attempts on target.

As a result, the reigning champions are six points off leaders City and second-placed Manchester United, while their home form is something to worry about with just one win in four outings. Antonio Conte’s side found the scoresheet in each home fixture last term, but the new season has gone differently with no goals against Arsenal and City.

According to The Mirror, the Blues’ hierarchy will look to please Conte during the New Year by making moves for both Alex Sandro and Alexis Sanchez. The west London outfit had failed with multiple approaches for Sandro during the summer transfer window, but they are prepared to make a fresh £60m attempt in January to test Juventus’ resolve.

Meanwhile, Sanchez is approaching the final six months of his Arsenal contract, and the Blues could seek to negotiate a cut-price deal with their London neighbours, although Arsene Wenger would be reluctant to sell. The Gunners’ hierarchy risk losing Sanchez on a free next summer, but they are awaiting offers from overseas with Paris Saint-Germain among the Chilean’s admirers.

Conte is currently contracted to Chelsea until the summer of 2019, but they are still doubts over his future with AC Milan wanting him as a replacement for under-pressure boss Vincenzo Montella.
