Arsenal plan to sell Mesut Ozil in the January transfer window

Arsenal are reportedly considering the prospect of selling Mesut Ozil in the New Year following the recent developments at the club. The Germany international is currently recuperating from a minor knee injury which saw him miss the games against Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion prior to the international break.

According to The Mirror, the north London giants could consider the sale of Ozil in January owing to his reduced impact in the team this term. The 28-year-old was only a late substitute in the 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion earlier last month, and Arsene Wenger is clear on the mind that the attacker will have to prove his worth to the team.

Both Alexis Sanchez and Ozil have entered the last year of their respective deals, and according to John Cross, the Gunners could be inclined to sell the latter in order to reduce their financial loss. The World Cup winner is said to want wages of around £350,000-a-week to extend his stay, and this has literally stalled the negotiations with Arsenal reluctant to pay anything beyond £275,000-a-week.

Ozil has not attracted particular interest from any club of late, although Inter Milan president Erick Thohir recently admitted that his side could plot a move for the former Real Madrid man. The German is said to have the ambition of staying put in the Premier League beyond next summer, and this could yet capture the attention of former boss Jose Mourinho, who is currently with Manchester United.

Arsenal are likely to assess Ozil’s performance following the international break, and the next set of fixtures could give a fair reflection whether the attacker can make an improvement to the team whilst he is on the playing field. The qualities of Ozil with Germany have never been doubted, but he just does not seem to turn out in a similar way for Arsene Wenger’s side.
