Tottenham Hotspur play host to Real Madrid in Wednesday’s Champions League tie at the Wembley. Spurs secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu in mid-October, and they will be hoping to pull off a massive upset victory over Los Blancos in the reverse fixture.
Injury Update:
As per Spurs’ official website, Harry Kane has returned to first-team training ahead of the clash, and Pochettino is hopeful that the Englishman will be at his 100 percent for the outing. Meanwhile, Gareth Bale and Keylor Navas are still sidelined with their respective injuries for Real and have hence been left out of the squad, according to the club’s Twitter account.
Players to watch for:
Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs’ very own star, Harry Kane, has had another strong start to the campaign with 13 goals in all competitions. The 24-year-old is also the joint-leading scorer in the Champions League with five goals in three outings, and he will relish the chance of expressing himself against the European champions. The Wembley has produced indifferent results for Spurs this campaign, and Kane will have an influential role to play up front in order to secure a positive result.
Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid: Ronaldo’s form in La Liga has been dismal by his standards with just one goal in six appearances. However, he could take some pride with his European exploits having netted five times in just three appearances. Despite the drop in pace, the 32-year-old has the gifted ability to find space in the opposition box, and Spurs will have to be wary of his movement.
Prediction:
Both sides are coming into the game on the back of defeats. While Spurs lost a tightly fought contest versus United, their opponents suffered one of the shocking upsets of the campaign after they were downed by newcomers Girona. A draw would suits both sides especially Spurs.
Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Real Madrid.
