Belgium international Yannick Ferreira Carrasco has opened the door to sealing a European return when the transfer window reopens across the continent’s top leagues during the summer.
The 25-year-old has been the subject of interest from the likes of Arsenal during the winter period, but a potential move failed to materialise after Carrasco’s club Dalian Yifang decided against his sale.
Despite this, the speculation regarding the attacker’s future has refused to cease and he has now sparked speculation over a European comeback while interacting in an exclusive interview with HLN.
Speaking to the Belgian publication, the former Atletico man acknowledged that he would love a summer return to his home continent after being denied the chance to do so at the beginning of the year.
He added that he has been content with his stay in the Far East, but would prefer a European return, considering he has dropped down the pecking order in the national setup under Roberto Martinez.
Opinion:
Carrasco made the surprise decision to head to the Far East in the winter of 2018 when he was widely fancied to make a name for himself with another elite European club.
Fast forward 13 months, it appears that the attacker is keen of making the comeback to European football and the same could happen during the summer with the Gunners still keen on his services.
Nonetheless, the north London side may not propose a one-time payment with their restricted £45m budget for the summer and it remains to be seen whether Dalian are interested in such kind of a deal.
Should this not be the case, Carrasco may still garner interest from other European sides, and hopefully, that can enhance his prospects of securing regular gametime with the national side.
Carrasco has been a regular figure for Belgium in recent years, but he was an unused substitute for the recent European qualifier against Russia while managing just 22 minutes off the bench against Cyprus.
