Arsenal appointed new manager Unai Emery not so long ago and now as per reports, the north Londoners are close to completing their first signing of the new era.
According to BBC, the Gunners are close to hiring the services of Dortmund star Sokratis Papastathopoulos for a fee worth 16 million pounds.
Moreover, London Evening Standard reported today that Arsenal are set to secure the €18million signing of the Greek center half as they close in on the first deal under the management of Emery. ES have claimed that the Gunners are expected to confirm the signing this week.
The 29-year-old star is an experienced center back, who has already featured 79 times for the senior national side and scored three goals.
In the last campaign, he played 30 games in the German Bundesliga and helped Dortmund qualify for the Champions League. Unfortunately, if he completes a move to the Emirates, he will not be able to play in the Europe’s elite club competition next season because Arsenal failed to qualify for the tournament.
As per the provided BBC link, for now, Arsenal are not looking to sign young players, instead, they are focusing on luring quality players who are all set to feature in the first team.
In your opinion, is Papastathopoulos good enough to improve Arsenal’s shaky defense.
