Arsenal reach agreement to sign Schalke defender

Premier League giants Arsenal are reported to have clinched their first signing of the summer after having agreed a five-year contract with Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac.

The Bosnian footballer has been heavily linked with a Premier League move this month with Manchester City and Arsenal among the main admirer for his services.

Football.London cite reports in Germany claiming that the north London club have secured an agreement for the highly-talented full-back, who is available on a Bosman in the off-season.

The 23-year-old had been initially tipped to leave the Veltins-Arena during the winter transfer window but the German club decided to keep hold of his services, knowing that they could lose him for nothing.

As per Football.London, the German-born lad looks to be on his way to the Emirates after he had an emotional farewell from the fans following the 1-1 draw against Hamburg yesterday.

Kolasinac, who is a left-back by trade, has also featured in the central defensive and midfield positions, and this provides the Gunners with the additional depth as they head into the 2017/18 season.

Both Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal are facing uncertain futures at the Emirates despite their recent good form, but it is the former, who looks likely to leave – owing to his restricted playing time over the course of the campaign.

Kolasinac is known as a tough tackler with an attacking instinct, and he could prove to be a success in the left wing-back role after having played in the position on occasions in Gelsenkirchen.

The former Germany youth international has contributed three goals and five assists in the Bundesliga this term, while also keeping 11 clean sheets in the process.

He currently averages two or more tackles/interceptions per game, and this will keep him in good guard ahead of a tough test in undoubtedly the world’s best league.
