West Ham United boss eyeing reunion with 33-year-old marksman

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly plotting a summer approach to sign AS Roma’s Edin Dzeko, who had previously worked under him at former club Manchester City.

The east London outfit are currently just below the top half of the league standings, but their recent results have been poor with the inability to find the cutting edge in the final third of the field.

According to The Express, Hammers boss Pellegrini remains keen on bolstering the club’s forward department ahead of next season, and Dzeko has been earmarked as the prime choice to do so.

It is added that the club could be prepared to offer the striker with wages of around £165,000 a week for the next two years in order to lure him to the English capital – a destination which he prefers.

Opinion:

The Hammers’ form has certainly dropped off during the past few months and this has somewhat coincided with the struggles of Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic to find the scoresheet for the Capital outfit.

Arnautovic signed a new contract extension in January with the club after being denied a potential big-money move to the Far East [The Times], but he has since failed to sort himself out with nine games without finding the net.

As such, his future could come under consideration during the summer, and it will be interesting to see whether Dzeko could be the ideal choice to solve the Hammers’ striking woes for the next couple of seasons.

At the age of 33, Dzeko is entering the final stages of his professional career, but he has nonetheless possessed consistency upfront with a combined 20 goals and assists for the Giallorossi during the ongoing season alone.

Based on this, the former Manchester City star should be considered a valuable addition for the Hammers irrespective of his age, and he could be available for a bargain price with his Roma contract expiring in 15 months’ time.
