Two things we learned: Manchester City 6-0 Chelsea

Manchester City managed to give a hiding to Chelsea on Sunday evening as they secured a comfortable 6-0 win over them at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens required a victory to jump back to the top of the league standings and they managed to do in grand fashion with Sergio Aguero netting his second hat-trick in three matches. Chelsea, meanwhile, dropped from fourth to sixth on the table in the same gameweek amid their worst-ever defeat since losing 7-0 to Nottingham Forest more than 27 years ago.

Two things we learned:

Sergio Aguero matches Premier League record: Aguero was tipped to be the main difference maker against the Blues and he met his expectations with another league hat-trick for the Citizens. The Argentine was once more quick with his attempts on goal which caught the Blues backline unawares and he was unlucky to have not extended his tally further after somehow missing a tap-in from just two yards at the start. With the performance, Aguero levelled up with Alan Shearer for the most number of Premier League hat-tricks (11) in history and now has every chance of eclipsing the ex-Newcastle United star before the season ends.

Chelsea’s defensive woes on the road continue: Chelsea had come into the game without scoring an away goal in the calendar year and the run prolonged against the Citizens, who embarrassed them to project another low point in their campaign. With the defeat, the Blues have conceded 12 goals in the past three away games without scoring and what has been more disappointing has been the fact that they have offered restricted threat on goal. Gonzalo Higuain’s long-range shot against Ederson was probably the sole notable occasion where the Blues came close to ending their goalless run on their travels.
