Tottenham Hotspur fearful of losing main marksman next year

Tottenham Hotspur are fearful of losing Harry Kane by the end of next season amid their struggles to compete for silverware across all competitions, The Telegraph reports. The England international has been the club’s standout performer over the past four-and-a-half years, but there are concerns regarding his future with Spurs’ inability to secure trophies.

According to The Telegraph, the Three Lions captain was angry and devastated following the recent 2-0 derby defeat to Chelsea, given that has greatly hampered the team’s prospects of competing for the Premier League crown this term.

Just one week ago, Spurs were looking at the prospect of making a late charge for the league title, but back-to-back losses at Burnley and Chelsea respectively has meant that they have dropped nine points off the top of the table, and potentially out of the race.

As a result, the north London giants seem generally concerned regarding the future of Kane, although the Englishman is set to remain with them next season, where they should be plying their trade at their new stadium.

Opinion:

Kane is currently contracted to Spurs until the summer of 2024, but his patience at the club may ran out, should the decade-long trophy wait extend for another 16 months. The striker has no doubt remained committed to the side over the years, but back in his mind, he would still relish the prospect of securing regular silverware.

By the 2020/21 season, Kane will have already turned 27 and that’s probably a stage where marksmen can expect to enjoy the prime of their careers with the assurance of trophies – something which Spurs may struggle to offer with their restricted transfer spending.

Spurs are currently nine points behind Liverpool at the top of the standings, but their immediate focus would be on the derby against Arsenal at the Wembley Stadium. Spurs are just four points ahead of fourth-placed Arsenal and they require a positive outcome to avoid dropping into a top-four tussle.

Thereafter, they are scheduled to face Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. The Capital side are favourites to progress to the quarter final stage after the 3-0 win in the home leg, but they are still ranked outsiders for the European crown.
