The losers from the 2017 summer transfer window – Premier League

With the English transfer window having reached its conclusion, Calcio Insider peeks into the proceedings of a couple of clubs, who should be disappointed with their business over the summer.

Arsenal:

The Gunners began their summer business early with the signing of Sead Kolasinac which was followed by the recruitment of Alexandre Lacazette in July. However, the club failed to bring in any players since with the likes of Gabriel, Kieran Gibbs, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain parting ways. The Ox, in particular, had become a fan favourite at the Emirates, and his departure will have a minor sense of disappointment. On the other hand, the club managed to keep Alexis Sanchez beyond the summer, but the Chilean is still said to be fuming at missing out on a deadline-day move to Manchester City. The Gunners had hoped to sign Monaco’s Thomas Lemar in order to permit Sanchez’s sale to the Citizens, but things didn’t go their way in the dying stages of the transfer window.

Swansea City:

The Swans probably made the highlight signing on deadline day with Renato Sanches joining from Bayern Munich on a season-long loan. Paul Clement has previously worked as an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at several clubs, and he used his relationship to his advantage. Regardless of this, the new signings still have huge boots to fill with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente having left the Liberty Stadium. The pair contributed to more than 75 percent of the Swans’ success last term, and their efforts are unlikely to be unforgotten as the club preserved their top-flight status. Summer signings Tammy Abraham and Wilfried Bony will be tasked with getting on the scoresheet with the latter making his Swans comeback following an unsuccessful spell at Manchester City. Renato is another who could hit the ground running, but it will depend on how he adapts to his new surrounding.
