European Super Cup Team News: Real Madrid vs Manchester United

Ahead of the much-anticipated European Super Cup clash between Real Madrid and Manchester United, Calcio Insider covers the latest team news from both ends – starting from the Red Devils, who have a larger absentee list on their hands due to a couple of UEFA inflicted suspensions.

Team News:

Manchester United:

The Red Devils enjoyed a fruitful pre-season with just one loss in seven outings, but they were held by Real Madrid by a 1-1 scoreline in the International Champions Cup which they eventually won by a penalty shoot-out.

According to the club’s official website, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are definite absentees for the game in Skopje due to their respective European bans. The Ivorian was given an extra two-game suspension for his red card offence in the Europa League semi-final last term. Meanwhile, Jones’ looks a tad unlucky to have received his two-game suspension after he abused a doping official for intervening prior to a team photo taking in tribute to the Manchester-attack victims.

Other than that, the likes of Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are back to full fitness after their rib and ankle injuries respectively whilst trio Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo are out for the long-term as mentioned previously by Jose Mourinho.

Real Madrid:

The La Liga holders have pretty much a clean bill of health with none of their first-team players in the physio room. Cristiano Ronaldo looks the only likely absentee due to match fitness, but he could turn up against his former club, should Zinedine Zidane consider. The Portugal international has been working out hard in order to find some game time at the Philips II Arena in Skopje next Tuesday.

Apart from this, Gareth Bale was seen limping off with some discomfort in training but Zidane has insisted that it is all good with the Welshman who had a torrid 2016/17 with injuries.
