Sampdoria are weighing up a shock move for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere as they look to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new Serie A season. The Italian outfit are hopeful of selling Patrik Schick in the coming days with the striker due to have a second medical with Juventus.
Wilshere, 25, had had a series of injuries over the course of his career with the latest incurred during his season-long loan spell at Bournemouth. The England international looked lively and fit for most of the 2016/17 campaign before he suffered an ankle fracture in the 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in April.
The playmaker has since been recuperating from his injury, and he is likely to miss the start of the season due to the lack of sufficient match fitness. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Gunners could offload Wilshere for just £9m this summer with his existing deal due to expire in a year’s time.
The former Stevenage man had previously suggested that his future could be away from the Emirates, and manager Arsene Wenger could oblige to the same following his persistent injury troubles over the past year or so.
Sampdoria are currently discussing the sale of Czech striker Schick to Juventus, and they are hopeful that the player will pass his second medical this week after issues with his original tests. Should the move go through, the Italian outfit will have a sizeable £26.5m kitty to spend on new recruits, and Wilshere is among the top targets in their shortlist.
A move to Italy may not be a bad option for Wilshere as teammate Wojciech Szczesny found out – after he enjoyed his best spell with AS Roma on a two-year loan. Szczesny is now on the verge of sealing his switch to Juventus, and Wilshere can take it as a motivation to pursue his career elsewhere.
