Real Madrid playmaker offered to Manchester United

Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Colombian winger James Rodriguez from Real Madrid in the summer, Sky Sports reveals.

The 25-year-old has been continuously linked with a Premier League move this month with reports (Metro via RCN Radio) suggesting that the player has a verbal agreement in place with the Red Devils.

Rodriguez joined the European champions from AS Monaco for a £71m package in the summer of 2014, and he has since failed to reach the heights of a Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale.

As a result, he has often found himself on the bench under manager Zinedine Zidane, who has been reluctant to risk his services ahead of the likes of Isco, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vasquez.

According to Sky Sports, the attacker’s stay at the Bernabeu could be limited till the summer with United being offered the opportunity to pursue his signature.

United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to add a world-class winger to his ranks this summer, and he will surely have an eye on Rodriguez with Henrikh Mkhitaryan yet to showcase his best form in the club’s shirt.

Rodriguez has started just 13 games in the Spanish La Liga this season, but despite this, he has managed a respectable tally of eight goals and six assists, and this makes him an enthralling prospect for any club offering him regular playing time.

A price for the proposed move has yet to be quoted, but there are suggestions that a fee in excess of £50m would be sufficient to lure the forward to England in the summer.

Rodriguez received a standing ovation over the weekend after he clapped all four sides of the Bernabeu following his substitution in the 4-1 thrashing of fourth-placed Sevilla.

The attacker has been quiet over his future plans in recent months, but he now appears to be counting his Real Madrid days with a transfer agreement likely to be discussed during the off-season.
