Spanish and European champions Real Madrid are reportedly to be monitoring the situation of Anthony Martial, who has yet to receive a contract extension with Manchester United. The France international has been in fine scoring form for the Red Devils this season with 11 goals across all competitions (whoscored) but his long-term future at Old Trafford remains in question.

According to French outlet RMC Sport, the 22-year-old has been ‘astonished’ with the ongoing developments at Old Trafford. The Frenchman had sent his representative to United’s office to discuss a new contract back in December, and he is believed to be surprised by the fact that there has not been any urgency from the club’s side to resolve his future.

As a result, the attacker has been associated with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan, both of whom had made tentative enquiries over the summer, whilst Real Madrid appear to have been thrown into the hat amid their plans for an major overhaul of their squad in the summer.

Los Blancos president Florentino Perez is alleged to be planning a potentially historical spending spree after the club’s poor standards in the domestic competitions this term, and Martial has been identified as a potential option to replace the likes of Gareth Bale and Lucas Vazquez, who are being fancied to be shown the exit door.

Martial started the season as a regular on the substitutes’ bench, but he slowly managed to win over his manager with notable performances, including the match-winner against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford earlier in October.

Due to this, the Frenchman found himself cementing his place ahead of Marcus Rashford on the left side of the attack, though his joy was curtailed with Alexis Sanchez’s arrival last month. In the Chilean’s presence, Martial has been compelled to perform on the right-wing, where he has had little success, and he has started the last two matches for United off the bench.
