Premier League [Preview]: Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur will look to get back to winning ways when they play hosts to Burnley at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday. Spurs started off their Premier League in fine fashion with a comfortable 2-0 win over 10-man Newcastle United. However, their second game was rather disappointing as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea despite dominating large stages of play. On the other hand, Burnley clinched a surprise 3-2 triumph over nine-man Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to kick off their season, before suffering a 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion at Turf Moor, which was their fortress last term.

Players to watch for:

Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur: The England international has a dismal record of having failed to score in the month of August. Kane nearly scored in the previous outing versus Chelsea only for the woodwork to deny, and he will be desperate to get on the scoresheet in what is a crucial game ahead of the international break. Spurs have won just one outing over the past 12 months at Wembley, but something is likely to happen sooner rather than later if they are to make the national stadium their fortress for the campaign.

Sam Vokes – Burnley: The Welshman netted a brace at Chelsea on the opening day of the campaign before drawing blank versus West Bromwich Albion. The Clarets recently completed the club-record signing of Chris Wood from Leeds United, and this will potentially put Vokes under pressure, should he fail to perform. Vokes has netted seven goals in his previous seven league games, but the Spurs backline could be a tough nut to crack.

Prediction:

Spurs’ blues at the Wembley could end his week with Mauricio Pochettino likely to demand a performance from the team following their setback last weekend. Burnley won just one away league game last season, and they could be up for a tough evening prior to the break.
