Newcastle United entertain table-toppers Manchester City in Tuesday’s Premier League game at St James Park. The Magpies ended a nine-game wait for a victory last weekend after they sealed a 3-2 triumph over fellow strugglers West Ham United. Meanwhile, it was business as usual for the Citizens as they claimed their 17th straight league win via a comfortable 4-0 scoreline over Bournemouth. The result sees them hold a 13-point lead over Manchester United at the top of the standings, whilst the Magpies are on the other end of the table, two points ahead of the drop zone.
Players to watch for:
Dwight Gayle – Newcastle United: Gayle was one of Newcastle’s shining lights during their recent lean run. The ex-Crystal Palace man has netted thrice since the last international break, but all of those have come in losing situations. The 28-year-old has notched opening goals against Chelsea and Manchester United in this period, and he will hope to likewise catch the Citizens’ defence cold, although it remains a difficult ask. Gayle has started four of the last five games with his only bench appearance coming in the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal (ESPN).
Kevin de Bruyne – Manchester City: The Belgium international has been by far City’s best performer this campaign. De Bruyne has paced the game from the heart of the midfield, and his impressive array of passing has often let his teammates through on goal. The former Wolfsburg man has also added goals to his tally this term, and he has evolved into an all-round player whom Pep Guardiola can’t restrict from picking in his lineup. De Bruyne has contributed directly to 14 goals in 19 top-flight appearances this season (ESPN).
Prediction:
Manchester City have answered nearly every challenge at hand this campaign, and they should seal a relatively comfortable victory with the ammunition upfront. Newcastle United 0-3 Manchester City
