Premier League duo interested in Luis Enrique

Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly hold an interest in appointing Luis Enrique as their next head coach. The 47-year-old is presently on a year-long sabbatical after a successful three-year spell with Barcelona, where he secured nine major trophies.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blues have already made initial contact with the Spaniard, who is said to prefer a stint in the Premier League following his success in Spain with Barcelona, and previously with Celta Vigo.

The Blues have seen their Premier League campaign turned into a mini-crisis after back-to-back defeats versus Bournemouth and Watford respectively, and they are presently outside the Champions League positions, though a win over West Bromwich Albion tonight will propel them to fourth spot.

Nonetheless, Antonio Conte’s position at the club remains in a feeble position with the club likely to make a possible change at the end of the campaign, unless the Italian manages to deliver big in terms of the Champions League.

Meanwhile, London rivals Arsenal are also keeping an eye on the situation of Enrique following another average campaign in the top-flight. The Gunners face the potential prospect of finishing outside of the top-four for the second season on the trot, and they are weighing up their options in case Wenger steps down from his role.

The Gunners suffered a gruelling 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby last weekend, and this sees them seven points off the top-four positions, which may be further extended with Chelsea’s win over the Baggies.

As a result, their chances of Champions League qualification look pretty slim unless they repeat the feat of Manchester United last term and go on to lift the Europa League, which is no mean feat with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund on their trail.
