Predicted Manchester United lineup vs West Ham United

Manchester United start their new Premier League campaign at Old Trafford against West Ham United. The Red Devils rarely lose on their home turf to the Hammers with their previous defeat dating back to the 2006/07 season, where a young Carlos Tevez stole the show with the only goal. As a result, the Hammers retained their Premier League status with the game forever in the minds of the club’s faithful.

Talking about history, Jose Mourinho will be looking to create his own at Old Trafford after having guided United to an EFL and Europa League double in his maiden season. The Premier League had remained a top priority under former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, and the Special will no wonder want to open his account with United this term.

Formation: 4-3-3

Mourinho has deployed the three-at-the-back on most occasions in pre-season, but we expect him to revert to the usual formation in order to accommodate the additional attacker.

Lineup:

David de Gea will be the usual suspect in goal as he has been over the past six years. Antonio Valencia is another automatic choice the United team sheet, and he will take up the right-back spot with Daley Blind on the left side of the backline. The central defensive partnership could see a new face in Victor Lindelof who could be accompanied by the ever-impressive Eric Bailly.

Moving onto the midfield, Mourinho has his players almost sorted with Ander Herrera, and summer signing Nemanja Matic featuring in the centre of the park while Paul Pogba will play slightly forward in the formation.

Marcus Rashford has developed into one of United’s best young prospects and he will take up the right-wing spot with Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the left. Belgium international Romelu Lukaku scored his first competitive goal against Real Madrid in the 2-1 Super Cup loss, and he will now make his bow at the Theatre of Dreams.
