Gameweek three of the Premier League produced some enthralling results with Manchester United staying clear of the chasing pack with their 100 percent record. Huddersfield Town maintained their unbeaten run on their top-flight comeback with a credible draw against Southampton. Calcio Insider looks into two games which captured the most attention…
Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal: For the third week in a row, Arsenal are the focus. The Gunners suffered a damaging loss to Stoke City last weekend, and most people including me predicted that they would put up some fight at Anfield. However, Liverpool put out one of their most scintillating displays for a while as goals from Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge sealed a convincing 4-0 triumph. It could have been more embarrassing for the Gunners, had it not been for Petr Cech’s heroics which included a point-blank save off Salah. To make things worse, Arsene Wenger’s side managed no shots on target against Loris Karius, who was fairly uncertain with the ball at his feet.
Chelsea 2-0 Everton: The Premier League champions looked back in their old form with Cesc Fabregas and summer recruit Alvaro Morata bagging in the goals in the first period. Similar to Arsenal, the Toffees failed to test goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois at a ground where they rarely register a point. Ronald Koeman’s side have shown signs of improvement with their summer spending, but they are still far off from challenging for a top-four Premier League spot with the frontline still need of a quality marksman. Antonio Conte appears to have got his side going following their early blemish against Burnley, and he looks set for now to avoid a Jose Mourinho or Claudio Ranieri, which could have him potentially sacked.
A special mention for the week could go to West Bromwich Albion, whose manager Tony Pulis continues to defy the odds with yet another impressive start to the new league season. The Baggies have seven points from a possible nine this term, and they look determined to silence their doubters.
