Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly looking into a summer move for Marcos Rojo, who has less than 18 month left on his current deal at Manchester United. The Argentina international has been in-and-out of the starting lineup this term with Jose Mourinho opting to stick with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling as his preferred combination at the heart of the defence.
According to The Sun, the former Sporting Lisbon has emerged as a potential target for Les Parisiens amid the uncertainty surrounding his future at Old Trafford. United boss Jose Mourinho is said to have already instructed the club’s hierarchy to look into a fresh deal for the Argentine, but the delay appears to have attracted interest from Les Parisiens, who are impressed with the player’s versatility.
The 27-year-old is capable of playing in either the central defensive or left-back position, and he is being as a potential candidate, who could act as a long-term replacement for Les Parisiens skipper Thiago Silva. The Brazilian has been left angered after failing to feature in the Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, and his future could be in question beyond the current campaign.
Despite the speculation, Rojo does not appear to be actively seeking a move away from Old Trafford, and in an exclusive interview with Inside United, he revealed his ambition to retain a regular spot after returning from his long-term knee problem – during a Champions League group stage outing versus FC Basel in November 2017.
The defender has since found himself as a regular on the substitutes’ bench, and he appears certain to miss the first leg of the round of 16 Champions League tie versus Sevilla due to an injury which remains undefined. Alongside Rojo, Phil Jones has also been sidelined for the Andalusian trip, and Mourinho could probably opt for Chris Smalling and the recently-returned Eric Bailly in the central defensive department.
