Opinion: Two strikers Everton should consider to bolster their forward options

Everton have endured a torrid start to the Premier League this term with the lack of goals being a major concern. Ronald Koeman’s side spent an excess of £120m on eight separate players in the summer, but they appear short of a marksman, who could handle the burden of former ace Romelu Lukaku. Both Wayne Rooney and Oumar Niasse have contributed two goals apiece for the Merseyside outfit this season, but apart from that, there has been much creativity from the rest of the squad. The Toffees currently lie just two points adrift of the drop zone, and Koeman will no doubt look to strengthen his frontline in the New Year. A number of high-profile strikers have fallen out of favour at their respective clubs of late, and we look into a few, who could potentially strengthen the Toffees in January.

Olivier Giroud – Arsenal: The France international is probably the most underrated striker in the top-flight despite his relatively good success with Arsenal. Giroud recently notched his 100th goal for the north London outfit, and this is some achievement for a forward, who is not gifted with pace up front. The former Montpellier has hit double figures in each of his last five seasons in the top-flight, and he could be the perfect fit, should Everton manage to lure him. The Frenchman has yet to start a league game for the Gunners this term, but he still remains committed to the club’s cause.

Andy Carroll – West Ham United: Similarly to Giroud, Carroll can put up a strong showing on his day – with his hold-up play being a characteristic of his game. The England international has been in and out of the West Ham lineup through injury, and there are thoughts whether the club would prolong his stay beyond 2019. A £20m fee has been quoted for Carroll’s potential return to Merseyside this summer, but any deal could be dependant on his form in the coming months. Javier Hernandez has undoubtedly become the go-to man for the Hammers, and this could encourage the Toffees’ pursuit of Carroll.
