Opinion: Two Players who could fill Morata’s void at Real Madrid

Real Madrid sold off Alvaro Morata to Chelsea earlier this week after the Blues paid an initial £60m to secure the 24-year-old striker. The Spain international managed just 14 starts in La Liga last term, and it was evident that he would push for a move elsewhere following his failed transfer to Manchester United earlier in the transfer window.

With Morata having left the Bernabeu, Zidane is likely to move in for a new centre-forward with no real backup to Karim Benzema. The France international has made the striker’s position his own at Madrid, but his record was not the best last term with just 19 goals across all competitions. With the transfer window approaching the business stage, Calcio Insiders looks into two players who could fill the void left by former graduate Morata.

Kylian Mbappe – AS Monaco: The 18-year-old has attracted interest from Real Madrid all summer long, and a report from The Sun suggests that the European champions are confident of sealing a world-record move. Mbappe is likely to cost in upwards of £120m, and such a huge outlay always remains a risk on a player, who has only hit the scene. The teenager ran defences ragged on several occasions last term, and his pace and dribbling attributes have already earned him comparisons with France great Thierry Henry. Mbappe also considers Zidane as his childhood favourite, and a move would suit both parties, provided he is assured valuable gametime next season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Borussia Dortmund: One of the most experienced strikers in the European scene, Aubameyang notched his career-best tally of 40 goals last term. The Gabon international promised his late grandfather than he would one day play for the European champions, and the time could be now with Los Blancos on the trail for a new marksman. BvB sporting director Michael Zorc has categorically ruled out Auba’s sale for the summer, but there could be further twists to the saga with Aubameyang waiting for a Real Madrid offer.
