Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits worrying injury concern for Alexis Sanchez

Manchester United’s caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has acknowledged that Alexis Sanchez may have damaged his knee ligaments during the club’s 3-2 Premier League win over Southampton on Saturday.

The Chile international started the second league game on the bounce amid the injury absence of Anthony Martial on the left flank, but he could not make much of an impression before being substituted early in the second half with a knee injury concern.

In a report covered by United’s official website, Ole has said that the latest injury for Sanchez could be a serious one, although the extent of the damage may only be determined by the scans due to be performed in the next 24 hours.

Sanchez has been a disappointment for the Red Devils since making the move from Arsenal during the 2018 winter transfer window, and he has managed just five goals from the previous 41 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Based on this, his absence may not be considered as a major blow for Ole’s team, though the current injury situation at the club means that the attack front has been weakened further with another setback on the playing field.

United’s recent victory over Southampton has propelled them to the fourth position on the league table ahead of Arsenal, who could only muster a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the early kick-off at the Wembley Stadium.

Next up, they are scheduled to face Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday night, and they will be hoping to overcome a 2-0 deficit from the opening leg at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba is suspended after picking up two yellow cards during the first leg but Marcus Rashford should feature after proving his fitness against Southampton. Similarly, Anthony Martial may return to the fray after the recent groin concern.
