Manchester United return to Premier League action this weekend with a home fixture against Swansea City. The Red Devils have remained in second spot for most of the campaign and Saturday’s game offers the chance to cement the position further with a victory over Carlos Carvalhal’s side.
Manager: Jose Mourinho
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Lineup:
David de Gea has been the undisputed first-choice for the number one position, and the Spain international will rightfully start between the sticks against Swansea. The Spaniard was on the bench for the FA Cup quarter-final against Brighton, where Sergio Romero was offered a rare start.
Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have now established themselves as the preferred picks in the right-back and left-back positions respectively, and no chances are expected, considering both Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw have fallen out-of-favour under the manager.
Chris Smalling have been a regular at the heart of the backline in 2018, and the Englishman is likely to keep his position alongside Eric Bailly, who is unquestionably the best central defender in the club’s ranks when playing at full throttle.
In midfield, Paul Pogba may return to the starting line-up with Scott McTominay carrying a calf complaint, and the Frenchman is likely to be paired alongside Nemanja Matic, who has been ever-present in the centre of the park.
Further up the field, we are fancying Marcus Rashford to start ahead of Anthony Martial on the left wing with Jesse Lingard on the right, whilst Alexis Sanchez could return to the starting lineup in an attacking midfield role behind the main striker.
Romelu Lukaku bagged his 25th goal of the campaign against Brighton in the FA Cup, and the Belgian will want to continue his fine scoring form versus the Swans this weekend. The 24-year-old found the scoresheet during the reverse league fixture at the Liberty Stadium in August.
