Manchester United boss keen on reunion with Austrian marksman

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on acquiring the signature of Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic from West Ham United when the transfer window reopens at the start of 2019.
The 29-year-old was regularly linked with the Old Trafford outfit during the summer transfer window but a deal never materialised with the United hierarchy showing no interest in making an approach.
United have since endured their worst-ever campaign in the Premier League era and The Mirror suggests that the club are now pondering over a potential deal for the Austrian to bolster their strike force.

Arnautovic’s brother and representative Danijel recently presented doubts regarding the forward’s future after hinting that he could favour a switch to a club offering him with regular Champions League football.

However, the same was refuted by the striker himself, who recently replied through an official Instagram post from West Ham United to assure the fans that he is committed to the east London outfit.

As such, it seems Arnautovic may not push through a mid-season departure from the London Stadium but it remains to be seen whether the Hammers are tempted by the prospect of a £50m plus bid from United at the turn of the year.

Arnautovic, who was previously the Hammers’ record signing, has previously worked under Mourinho during a loan spell between 2009 and 2010 at Inter Milan whom he joined on a season-long loan from Dutch side FC Twente.

The move, however, was barely a success with him managing only three league appearances and he enjoyed a rather shrewd relationship with the Portuguese tactician, who indicated that he had ‘an attitude of a child’ after not being granted regular gametime.

Arnautovic is widely expected to lead the line for the Hammers this weekend where they are scheduled to face table-toppers Manchester City in the Premier League. West Ham have lost each of their previous five games against the Citizens.
