Premier League heavyweights Liverpool are understood to be preparing an approach to sign Paulo Dybala from Juventus prior to this summer’s transfer window.
The Argentina international has experienced a difficult campaign with the Bianconeri, where he has struggled for regular gametime, and he has managed just four league starts since the turn of the year.
According to Italian outlet TuttoMercato, Jurgen Klopp’s side are said to hold a serious interest in signing the former Palermo man and they could make a formal offer in the coming weeks.
Dybala has experienced a notable dip in form during the current campaign where he has managed just nine goals compared to his 26 last term, where he was regarded as the main orchestrator in the attack.
Part of this dip could be attributed to the summer arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has formed a better partnership with Mario Mandzukic in the centre forward role.
Regardless of this, it would still come as a surprise, if the Bianconeri are considering his probable sale, given he could have a long-term future with the side unlike Ronaldo and Mandzukic, who are already in their 30s.
Meanwhile, in Liverpool’s regard, the move may also not make sense unless Jurgen Klopp is willing to revert to a 4-2-3-1 formation, which he has barely used during the course of the campaign.
At present, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino seem untouchable in a 4-3-3 setup upfront, and Dybala would surely want assurances of regular gametime before considering a new challenge.
Dybala is currently with the Argentine national side on international duty, where he could feature against Venezuela and Morocco respectively in the forthcoming friendly matches.
Of late, Lionel Messi and Dybala have barely featured on the pitch together due to similar positional preferences and it will be interesting to see how manager Lionel Scaloni solves the conundrum.
